Training cum exposure visit program is being organizing by Tripura Bamboo Mission - IL & FS CDI (supported by NBM program) on bamboo propagation and value addition in the state of ASSAM from 6th to 9th February 2009

Training cum exposure visit program of JFMC members organized by Tripura Bamboo Mission and supported by NBM. Training program was organized to make bamboo growers and farmers aware about the nursery management, propagation and value addition of bamboo in the state of Assam. Around 29 nos. of JFMCs members (Joint Forest Management Committee) participated in the training cum exposure visit program for 4 days. In Assam Mr. Ranjan Borua, Forest Officer, Dept. of Forest, Govt. of Assam briefed the team about the ongoing activities of National Bamboo Mission.

The team visited one bamboo nursery at Basistha, under Assam Forest Department. Mr. Partha Sarathi Das, IFS, Silviculturiest narrated about this nursery and the methods of vegetative propagation of bamboo like Culm cutting, Branch cutting Macro proliferation and also Rhizome based propagation. Next day the team visited a Bamboo based handicraft production center at Barkhat under Meleng Balichapori GP of Kamrup District of Assam. The owner of the center Mr. Mehatab Hussein explained their production details. They produced baskets, lampshade, pen stand, magazine boxes table etc.
